Unlock the Power of Diverse Voices in Your Classroom.
Join us for an innovative professional development workshop led by Rashida Murphy, a facilitator with extensive experience in creative writing, editing, and teaching. This dynamic session will take you on a journey that explores writing from local, culturally diverse, and Aboriginal authors, teaching you how to integrate these diverse voices seamlessly into mainstream literature and writing lessons.
In this workshop, we will provide you with resources and practical strategies to reflect Australia’s rich multiculturalism in your teaching, so you can ensure your classroom becomes a vibrant hub of inclusive storytelling.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll acquire a valuable toolkit of diverse companion texts for creative writing classes, accompanied by in-depth analysis of select texts. This comprehensive breakdown will cover themes, experiences, characters, and ideas, equipping you with the knowledge to engage your students on a deeper level. Rashida will share her expertise on effectively engaging immigrant, refugee, and non-Anglo students, helping you foster empathy and curiosity about the world through literature.
WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?
Teachers of creative writing in secondary schools. This workshop caters to a range of abilities, from a basic understanding of narrative to the capacity to experiment with language, form, and structure, thereby modelling students’ differing abilities.
