Join us for a lecture with Kirsten Han on human rights in Singapore. The recipient of the 2024 Portside Review Human Rights Essay Prize, Kirsten will explore the themes of her award winning essay, “Singapore Will Always Be At War.” Kirsten will discuss Singapore’s ongoing war on drugs, weaving together stories of personal activism, systemic injustice, and human rights abuses. This event offers an opportunity to engage with the global issue of capital publishment, the illegal drug trade, and is framed by the personal stories of those in this space.
Kirsten Han is a journalist, writer, and activist from Singapore. She runs We, The Citizens, a newsletter covering Singapore from a rights-based perspective, and Altering States, a newsletter focused on drugs and drug policy. She has been an anti-death penalty activist since 2010 and is a member of the Transformative Justice Collective.
