Come along and hear the award-winning Kirsten Han talk about stories as a form of citizenship. Han’s advocacy and activism highlights how personal stories and writing can lead to social reform. At the Art Gallery of WA, she will inspire others to use their words to change and reframe pressing societal issues.
Kirsten Han is an independent journalist of international repute. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post, Foreign Policy and Rest of World. Her first book, The Singapore I Recognise: Essays on home, community and hope, was published in September 2023. Through her website, We the Citizens, Han has actively campaigned against the death penalty for drug offences, reports on issues not covered by mainstream and encourages citizens to commit to a better society.

TICKETS
Tickets are pay-what-you-feel ticketing starting from $20. We are also offering a student concession rate of $12.
Please book in advance to secure your spot, as seating is limited. Doors open at 5:45 PM.
All ticket sales go back into Centre for Stories operations and programming. We are a small not-for-profit charity and appreciate your support.
LOCATION AND TRANSPORT
The event will be held at Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA), Perth Cultural Centre
Perth, WA 6000. AGWA is a wheelchair accessible venue.
AGWA is just a short walk from the Perth Train Station and is easily accessible by public transport and car.

Kirsten Han
Collapse BioKirsten Han is a journalist, writer and activist from Singapore. She is the managing editor of Mekong Review, a quarterly Asia-focused literary journal. She also runs We, The Citizens, a newsletter covering Singapore from a rights-based perspective, and Altering States, a newsletter focused on drugs and drug policy. She has been an anti-death penalty activist since 2010 and is a member of the Transformative Justice Collective. Kirsten's essay, Singapore Will Always Be At War, won first prize in the 2024 Portside Review Human Rights Essay Prize and was published in Portside Review‘s thirteenth issue.
