For Ryan, learning to love what he sees in the mirror was a journey with many obstacles along the way.

Backstories is a multi-sited storytelling festival located in backyards across Perth and regional Western Australia. In 2021, Backstories featured locations in Margaret River, South Fremantle, Midland, Quinns Rocks and more.

Backstories 2021 in Mount Lawley was made possible with funding from Lotterywest, Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Centre for Stories Founders Circle, and City of Bayswater.


This story was collected at our Mount Lawley backyard. It features Ryan Steed sharing his story of learning to love what he sees in the mirror, and the many obstacles along the way.
