Expressions of Interest for ‘Solid Connections’ are now open

We’re seeking EOIs from people from migrant, refugee, and CaLD backgrounds who want to connect more deeply with the history and cultures of Nyungar people, and First Nations peoples more broadly in Australia.

September 10, 2025

Are you a person from a migrant, refugee, and/or culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) background?  Do you want to engage in Deep Listening for Community Connection and Change with Nyungar people and First Nations Communities more broadly in Australia?

Solid Connections is the sister program of First Stories. It has been designed to create safe spaces for non-Indigenous Australians, particularly those from CaLD communities, to learn more about First Nations cultures, values, and our shared colonial history; build relationships with local First Nations people; and learn how to meaningfully tell their own stories of heritage, family and identity.

Solid Connections expresses our goal of building non-Indigenous people’s connection to First Nations cultures and ways of being; connection to their own history and heritage; and connection to Country and Place, increasing a sense of belonging and community cohesion.

Centre for Stories is seeking expressions of interest from people from migrant, refugee, or CaLD backgrounds who want to connect more deeply with the history and cultures of Nyungar people and First Nations peoples more broadly in Australia.

This storytelling project will involve a series of up to five two-hour workshops in Boorloo (Perth) and Kinjarling (Albany) during October and November 2025. In these workshops, participants will listen to personal stories and shared histories from Nyungar storytellers, reflect on their own experiences and connections to place, and develop a personal story to share.

The program aims to support participants to come away with a deeper engagement with local First Nations cultures and peoples, as well as the skills and confidence to build their own “solid connections,” share their stories, and listen in support of one another’s communities.

Participants will receive an honorarium of $250 upon completion of the program.
