We are pleased to announce our Side Walks program for 2020!

Back for the second year, Side Walks is comprised of six events taking place over two phases. You can choose to come to the CITY BLOCK, the NORTHBRIDGE BLOCK, or commit to the full-day experience and come to both. Here’s what to expect:

CITY BLOCK

Third Culture Kids – 1pm, Toastface Grillah
Chris Lin kicks off Side Walks with a conversation about identity in the diaspora. Featuring Gisele Ishimwe, Rafael Gonzalez, and Alexander Te Pohe.

My Worst Critic – 2pm, King St Collective
Personal stories about our biggest critics – ourselves! Maanas Tiwari, Garick Lee, and Zoe Bradfield talk perfectionism, social anxiety, and making it in a man’s world.

Indian Matchmaker – 3pm, Studio 281
A closer look at Netflix’s ‘Indian Matchmaking’ and the real-life consequences of the billion dollar marriage-industrial complex. Featuring Rashida Murphy, Gerard D’cruz, and Saadia Ahmed.

NORTHBRIDGE BLOCK

Father’s Daughter – 4.15pm, Hello Rooftop Bar at The Rechabite
Charlotte Bridge and her father Kim Bridge talk going out bush, planting our feet on Country, and passing it on from one generation to the next.

I Will Not – 5.15pm, Dandy Barber Co
A TikTok-inspired, lip-sync battle of Julia Gillard’s iconic misogyny speech will be used as a kicking off point for a discussion about gender equity in Australia. Facilitated by Sisonke Msimang and featuring Eduardo Araújo and Sally Richardson.

Lit Live – 6.30pm, Alex Hotel
Grab a drink and settle in as we finish off Side Walks with a special edition of Lit Live. Combining stories from Centre for Stories’ anthologies Wave after Wave and To Hold the Clouds, hear stories from emerging Western Australian writers read to you by local actors. Featuring Sarah McNeil and others.

After Party! – 7.15pm, Alex Hotel
Come and get groovy with us at Alex Hotel. Drinks and food will be available for purchase.

All events are free, but RSVP is essential! View the full program and RSVP here.

Side Walks would not be possible without the generous support from our sponsors.
