Portside Review’s sixth issue is here!
June 8, 2022
Issue Six of Portside Review launched this week, featuring some of the best writing from Singapore and the Singaporean diaspora.
Lead by guest editors Cher Tan and Nina Chabra, this issue is daring and brave: it takes on race, class, identity, and politics, with every tide bringing different shapes, shells, and treasures. From fable-like metaphors, to sound pieces made up of real-life news articles, to a satirical play on porn site headlines; we’re sure there’ll be something in this issue that surprises you.
Guest editor Cher Tan is an essayist, critic, and editor living and working on unceded Wurundjeri land (so-called “Melbourne”). She previously lived in Kaurna Yerta/Adelaide and Singapore, where she was born and raised. She is the reviews editor at Meanjin and an editor at LIMINAL magazine. Currently, she is working on her debut essay collection ‘PERIPATHETIC’.
For our second guest editor Nina Chabra, storytelling has been an artery of her practice for the last 18 years. She has used various mediums to communicate her thoughts and style. She puts her camera and editing skills towards collaborating with any interested community in Singapore, in hopes of visually presenting lesser-known truths.
Together, along with slice of life photographer Ore Huiying, whimsical illustrator Paperlily Studio, and a whole cast of talented and passionate authors, Portside Review Issue Six is a swirling eddy of voices, just waiting to be heard.
