Centre for Stories is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a $60,000 grant from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Australian Cultural Diplomacy Grants Program (ACDGP). The ACDGP provides support for Australia’s creative industries to embrace, engage and build people-to-people links in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

The 2021-22 ACDGP supports the economic and social recovery efforts of Australia’s creative industries to rebound internationally by providing funding for projects that:

With this funding, Centre for Stories’ digital publication Portside Review will launch four special issues from 2022–2023 dedicated to new work from Singapore, South Africa, Myanmar and India. Each issue will be delivered in collaboration with partner country organisations and guest editors. In addition to more than 100 paid publications of audio files, interviews, essays, poetry, fiction and non-fiction, the project will include online launch events targeted to international and local audiences interested in the literary landscape of the Indian Ocean region.

Cultural diplomacy plays a vital role in international relations, offering unique opportunities to foster mutual understanding and build relationships. Through cultural diplomacy initiatives, DFAT strengthens Australia’s influence, reputation, reach and relationships overseas. Centre for Stories is passionate about providing financial and creative support to Australian, diaspora, and international contributors and sees ACDGP as an opportunity to continue this support.

ACDGP is also an opportunity for Centre for Stories to build new relationships with organisations, artists and initiatives connected to the Indian Ocean and beyond, and a chance for Portside Review to reach new audiences, placing Perth on the world map as a leading international literary hub.
