We’re very excited to launch a brand-new annual First Nations WA Writer’s Program at Centre for Stories – with your support!

The program will provide opportunities for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and other First Nations people living in Perth and WA to practice their writing craft, have their work published with editing and feedback, and participate in writing workshops facilitated by well-known established First Nations authors.

We are also proud to partner with Mabagala Books, the leading Indigenous publishing house in Australia, on bringing their vast network of established authors to support our emerging writers.

Your donation will make this program happen.

First Nations WA Writer’s Program will be led by writer/editor and Ballardong Noongar woman Casey Mulder and writer/producer Whadjuk Nyungar woman Luisa Mitchell. Together, Casey and Luisa started the monthly First Nation’s Write Night this year at Centre for Stories, with a growing group of passionate Indigenous storytellers. Casey and Luisa will continue to host these events and produce additional writing workshops, with the goal that participants will be able to use this time and guidance to produce short stories, poems and other forms of media for publication on Centre for Stories’ website, as well as in a print anthology in 2024.

This first year is only just the beginning. If our community can make it a reality in 2023/24, Centre for Stories will seek further funding to make this program a permanent and sustainable practice that only grows in scope and ambition in future years. We hope to expand the initiative to include a mentorship program, increase the number of exciting workshops, and provide opportunities for participants to fly interstate and internationally for further learning and networking experiences.

Donate now to make this program a reality.

The Centre for Stories is an independent non-profit with tax-deductible gift recipient status. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible. Your generous support makes a real difference.
