Centre for Stories is excited to partner with the City of Armadale to bring you four fabulous storytelling events in their Armadale Writer’s Festival this September.
TUE 5TH SEPTEMBER: THE ART OF STORYTELLING WORKSHOPS
Are you a writer, artist, or someone who just loves the arts? Join us for a fun and revealing 3-hour storytelling workshop where you will learn the skills and confidence to become a strong storyteller and communicator. You will join a small like-minded group of people from your community willing to share their stories on how creativity has impacted their lives, or the personal inspirations behind their art. This workshop will be facilitated by an expert storytelling trainer.
All we ask from participants is that you are willing to share and be vulnerable! If participants are feeling confident enough, they can volunteer to share their story at our corresponding ‘Moved By Art’ storytelling event the following evening (spaces for this are limited and will be arranged at the end of these workshops). We recommend attending both events for an in-depth and immersive storytelling experience.

WED 6TH SEPTEMBER: MOVED BY ART – AN EVENING OF STORYTELLING
Join us for an intimate evening listening to community stories about writing, art and the experiences that inspire us, at the Armadale Library.
You will hear from trained storytellers and writers Vuma Phiri, Nisha D’Cruz and Jerome Masamaka, as well as surprise community members who recently participated in our earlier storytelling workshops.The event will be moderated and there will be time for audience Q&A throughout the evening. Vuma Phiri engages with the stories around her as a form of entertainment, learning and to gain empathy. She created @afroheritagebookclub at Centre for Stories to bring other avid readers alongside her to learn and share the works of Africa’s finest writers.
Nisha D’Cruz is a poet living and writing in Perth, WA. In her spare time, she reads poetry and astrology blogs, tries to write, and lies around in the sun.
Jerome Masamaka is a poet and a creative writing PhD candidate at Murdoch University.
THUR 7TH SEPTEMBER: HOW TO PODCAST YOUTH STORYTELLING WORKSHOP
Always wanted to start your own podcast? If you are a young person aged 12 – 16, join podcaster and oral storytelling producer Luisa Mitchell for a fun, interactive workshop where you’ll learn the fundamentals of impactful storytelling, how to create a podcast, and even record your very own first episode!
We will use stories you learn to share from the first half of the workshop as the content for our podcasts. All recorded episodes can be shared with participants after the workshop. All necessary podcasting equipment will be already on site for this workshop.
Your ticket includes pizza and drinks for dinner. Gluten free and vegetarian options will be available.
About Luisa: Luisa Mitchell is a Broome-born author and producer. She currently manages the oral storytelling programs and events at Centre for Stories, dedicated to inclusive storytelling that makes a difference. She has produced podcast and oral history collections for clients such as the State Library of Western Australia, Anglicare WA, City of Armadale, and City of Perth. Her recent interview collection, My Art, My Armadale, involved working with young people from schools in the Armadale region.
