Centre for Sories
Join Rebecca Giggs for a writing workshop on non-fiction writing. With a focus on true stories, we will cover elements of craft, style, technique as well as where to place work for publication. A collaborative and open environment for writers at all stages to hear from an established and internationally recognise voice.
Rebecca Giggs is an author from Boorloo, Australia. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Emergence, the New York Review of Books, Granta, and in anthologies including Best Australian Essays and Best Australian Science Writing. Rebecca’s writing focuses on the natural world and animals in particular: the power animals hold over us and the duties we owe to other species, given the ecological and technological transformations of our age. Rebecca’s debut book Fathoms: The World in the Whale has been translated into several languages, including Korean, Italian, Mandarin, Slovakian and Spanish.

LOCATION AND TRANSPORT
The event will be held at Centre for Stories, Northbridge WA 6003. Centre for Stories is a wheelchair accessible venue.
The Perth train station is a 10-minute walk from Centre for Stories. The closest Wilson parking is 2 minutes away at Northbridge Central, 8/6 Errichetti Place.

Rebecca Giggs
Collapse BioRebecca Giggs is an award-winning author from Perth, Australia. She writes about how people feel toward animals in a time of ecological crisis and technological change. Her debut nonfiction book, Fathoms: The World in the Whale, came out in 2020 and was awarded the WA Premier's Prize for an Emerging Writer. It was also shortlisted for the 2021 Stella Prize — Australia's most renown award for writing by women and non-binary authors in any genre. Rebecca's essays and articles have appeared in Best Australian Science Writing and Best Australian Essays, as well as in The Atlantic, Granta, The New York Times Magazine, and Griffith Review. Her topics span jellyfish swarms, how sea-turtles fare in heatwaves, the history of leeches as weather prediction devices, and whether cows have friends.
