Centre for Stories

The SFF (Science Fiction, Fantasy, Speculative Fiction) Collective is a group that meets regularly to discuss topics relating to SFF books and share book recommendations across the genre.

Are utopias and dystopias polar opposites, or is there a fine dividing line? How do gender and race factor into our visions of the future? How can philosophical movements such as transhumanism, solarpunk and the cthulucene articulate utopic visions of life? What is cli-fi? Why does dystopia resonate with young adults so much? How can utopian/dystopian fiction function as political commentary?

Writers discussed may include Margaret Attwood, Ray Bradbury, George Orwell, Orson Scott Card, A. J. Betts, Thomas More, Aldous Huxley, Philip Pullman, N. K. Jemesin, Donna Haraway, Octavia Butler, Philip K. Dick.

Although this event is free, RSVP is essential.
