Announcing: 2023 Mentoring Program

Our Writing Change, Writing Inclusion mentoring program is open for applications for 2023.

June 1, 2023

Funded by The Ian Potter Foundation, our mentoring program is designed for people who are emerging into the writing and literature space. We will pair mentees with a writer mentor who can guide them through the initial stages of their writing practice. Mentors will provide advice, editorial support, set tasks, and keep mentees accountable on their journey to becoming a writer.

The mentoring program will run for 6 months with at least 3 contact hours a month. The program commences in September 2023 and ends in February 2024.

Participating in the program will also give mentees the chance to network with other writers and be profiled on the Centre for Stories website.

Applications open 2 June 2023 and close 11.59pm AWST 7 July 2023. Applications are open to all writers living in WA who consider themselves ’emerging’. As an organisation that champions inclusivity, we highly encourage people from diverse backgrounds (including CaLD, LGBTQIA+, POC, First Nations and people living with a disability) to apply. Apply here.

This phase of the writing program is the exciting final step of the Writing Change, Writing Inclusion program, which has seen over 50 writers come through our mentoring, hot desk and writing fellowships over the course of three years. We are incredibly thankful to The Ian Potter Foundation, Australia Council for the Arts and the Centre for Stories Founders Circle for supporting this magnificent program.

The success of the Writing Change, Writing Inclusion program has been reported through our Social Impact study (read here), and also shared through many publication outcomes (Under the Paving Stones, the Beach, SBS Voices, here & now, Green Leaves, and more) and increased public appearances (Perth Festival, Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival, Digital Writers Festival, Emerging Writers Festival, Perth Poetry Festival, and more). Writers who have been through our programs are making waves in local, national, and international literature sectors, and are creating a positive shift for change and inclusion in the arts sector as a whole.
