North Perth
Backstories is a multi-sited storytelling festival located in the suburbs of Perth and beyond. Spend a lazy afternoon with friends and family in the comfort of your neighbour’s backyard and enjoy hearing from two trained storytellers. Bring a picnic, something to sit on, and put your mingling hat on, it’s going to be a rippa arvo.
Our North Perth location features storytellers Arozak Salam and Martha Weruing, facilitated by Ron Bradfield.
Special musical item from Flooded Palace.
WHAT TO BRING
Bring your own snacks, drinks, or even a picnic dinner. If you’d like to be comfortable, bring a picnic blanket or fold-out chairs.
A NOTE ON ATTENDANCE
Please note that although this is a FREE event, RSVP is essential. The exact location of this event will be emailed to ticket holders on Thursday 4 March. Please check your junk mail as our emails often find their way into spam/junk.
ACCESSIBILITY
Backstories is located in residential backyards and so we cannot guarantee that all backyards will meet your access needs. We would like to make Backstories accessible to as many people as possible and encourage you to get in contact by phone or email to discuss your access needs. If you require an AUSLAN interpreter, please contact us by 19 February on (08) 9328 1442 or info@centreforstories.com
THANK YOU
Backstories would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors Lotterywest, DLGSC, and Centre for Stories Founders Circle.

Arozak Salam
Collapse BioArozak Salam is a subsea engineer by day, and a burlesque performer by night. He was born and grew up in Indonesia, moved to Perth in 2012, and obtained Australian citizenship in 2017. Asian, gay, Muslim – he doesn’t fit into boxes and sees himself as a unicorn. His story is about moving back to Perth in July 2020 after living in London for two years, and what he learned about himself in hotel quarantine. It’s a story of romance, heartbreak, unfinished business and new hope.
