‘Writing Change, Writing Inclusion’ Recipients Announced
May 24, 2021
Centre for Stories is excited to announce the recipients of our 2021 writing program, Writing Change, Writing Inclusion funded by The Ian Potter Foundation, Australia Council and Centre for Stories Founders Circle.
The Writing Change, Writing Inclusion writing program is an extension of our successful Inclusion Matters (2019/2020) and Indian Ocean Mentoring (2018) programs. Centre for Stories strives for a society that is inclusive and celebrates the stories of all people – not just what’s in the mainstream. The Writing Change, Writing Inclusion program is designed to increase access and representation of CaLD and/or Indigenous writers in Western Australia. The program was developed in response to the need for local CaLD and/or Indigenous writers to feel represented, to have a safe public space to work on their practice, and an opportunity to be seen in the Western Australian publishing industry as more than just a ‘diversity box’ to tick.
The Writing Change, Writing Inclusion program involves two streams: mentoring program and hot desk fellowship. The mentoring program pairs emerging writers with a published author over a nine-month period with the intention to produce work at a publishable standard. We are grateful to the mentors involved in the program: Sisonke Msimang, Jay Emmanuel, Bindy Pritchard, Roanna Gonsalves, Brooke Davis, Elfie Shiosaki, Rashida Murphy, Perun Bonser, Simone Lazaroo, Camha Pham. The hot desk fellowship offers a desk for writers at the Centre for Stories and a significant stipend payment. Together, recipients from both streams will also have access to workshops, events, and feedback from Centre for Stories. All writers have the chance for their work to be published in the next Centre for Stories anthology.
Join us in celebrating the recipients of the mentoring program and hot desk fellowship. Congratulations!
