Sean Cowan was a reporter at The West Australian for 14 years, much of which was spent reporting on organised crime. He won several journalism awards during this period, including the WA Journalist of the Year award on three occasions. The last of those awards was received in 2010 when he was recognised for a 10-part investigative series on WA’s organised crime scene since the 1970s. After leaving The West Australian in 2012, Cowan worked for four years as a journalism lecturer at Curtin University and earned a First Class Honours in History at Murdoch University. He is currently the Managing Editor for Australian Community Media’s regional operations in Western Australia and has written an as-yet unpublished series on crime in Perth in the first half of the 20th century.
