Carolina Allen

Photo of Carolina Allen

Carolina Allen migrated to Broome from the Philippines in the 1980s after marrying an Australia pearl diver. She was one of a handful of Asian people in Broome at the time, and the first Asian person to be employed by Charlie Carters supermarket. Carolina’s story speaks of the challenges of overcoming the isolation, discrimination and language barriers that many migrants face.
