Inclusion Matters wrap up
August 25, 2020
These lovely faces are just the tip of the iceberg of the many passionate writers, poets, mentors, and arts practitioners involved in the Centre for Stories’ Inclusion Matters project. Over the last 12 months, we’ve been working with emerging writers and poets to develop new works, hot desk, attend festivals, perform readings, and develop a community of writers who champion inclusivity and diversity.
Over the duration of this project, we’ve spent over 260 hours mentoring 13 emerging writers/poets, provided 13 Hot Desk Fellowships, published 13 works on our website, profiled and interviewed 26 participants, produced over 100 new works and edited 100 more, participated in 16 events, collaborated with festivals (Perth Festival 2020, Digital Writers’ Festival 2019, Emerging Writers’ Festival 2020), flown in three established arts practitioners from the east coast, hosted network gatherings, developed two new literary clubs, submitted over 40 works to journals and prizes, and consumed over 300 coffees.
Although we’ve come to an end there’s so much more this group has to offer. Be sure to check out future reading events involving our writers and rumour has it an anthology will be out soon!
Thank you to everyone involved, especially our expert mentors for their love, support, and guidance. We are so proud of this little community we have developed and we look forward to continuing to support their literary journey.
This project was possible with support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Copyright Agency.
