Please note that due to current social distancing measures as a result of the recent lockdown this event has been postponed to Saturday 15 May 1pm-4pm.

Six award winning writers will offer a series of six Masterclasses that delve deep into the heart of story. These Masterclasses are suitable for emerging and established writers who are committed to focussing on individual aspects of their writing and developing that writing further. Writers of colour, writers living with a disability, and LGBTQIA+ writers are especially encouraged to attend.

Science in Story and Imagination with Dr Vivienne Glance

The sciences, and their many applications through technology, are all around us. Science and technology are important players in how society is shaped, how we and people in other countries live, and how our imaginations and aspirations are directed. Science and technology shape our lives and our futures, and are valuable and fascinating sources of inspiration for writers.

Whether you write poems or prose, literary fiction or science fiction, there are basic techniques for including science into your writing, approaches to research, and opportunities for collaboration. This workshop will cover the many possibilities that exist to help you write your creative reflection on science in our lives.

Other Masterclasses

While you are encouraged to attend all six classes, you may also choose to attend individual sessions as each class is run by a different writer, although the whole program has been developed holistically and consultatively.

17 April – The Narrative Landscape with Portland Jones

24 April – The Hybrid (Decolonised) Narrative with Rashida Murphy
