Aug 11, 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Five emerging writers from our Writing Change, Writing Inclusion program share words from their work, touching on themes of dreams, dreaming and the spaces in between.
Featuring Sun-Mi Clyburn, Nadia Heisler, Vuma Phiri, Baran Rostamian, and Taonga Sendama, the night will include readings of poetry and spoken word on dreams, memory and the places where they overlap. Each writer will speak briefly on their experience of the Writing Change, Writing Inclusion program.
Tickets are $10.00.
Companion card holders are welcome, please contact us on (08) 9328 1443 or at firstname.lastname@example.org to organise this.
If you are experiencing financial hardship, you can contact us to arrange entry at no charge on (08) 9328 1443 or at email@example.com.
Please note that the Story Lounge does not have a bathroom but visitors can use the public toilets across Hay Street Mall at the Enex Building.
Story Lounge would not be possible without the Humich Group who donated the Hay Street Mall shopfront to activate the CBD for local writers and artists, as well as financial support from the City of Perth and Australia Council for the Arts.
Vuma PhiriExpand Bio Collapse Bio
As a young woman living in Perth, Vuma has always found herself engaging with the stories around her as a form of entertainment, learning and to gain empathy. Her life began in storytelling, from the origin of her name, to living with parents who collect novels to add to their bookshelves at home. Migrating to Australia at the age of 7, Vuma has always felt disconnected to the stories from her home country, Zambia, and from the African continent overall. Vuma created her Instagram book account, @diaspora_reader, in 2019, to share reviews and recommendations for books she has read. In deciding she wants to read more from African authors, Vuma is hoping to bring other avid readers alongside her, so we can learn and share the works of Africa’s finest writers.
