Backstories is a one day multi-sited storytelling festival located in the suburbs of Perth. Reaching from Falcon to Carramar, Backstories provides new opportunities for storytellers to share stories in local backyards.

Bring a picnic and a blanket, hear from two storytellers, and meet new members of your community—all in your local area of North Fremantle!

Featuring local storytellers Sankari Sivaralingam and Iven Manning, and facilitated by Krishna Sen.

RSVPs for this event are full. The exact location of this event will be emailed to ticket holders on Monday 9 March.

Professor Krishna Sen

Professor Krishna Sen graduated from the University of Calcutta with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in History. She is an internationally recognized scholar of contemporary Indonesian and media studies and is fluent in several South and Southeast Asian languages.

Sankari Sivaramalingam

Sankari is an actor, business analyst and storyteller. She has lived in the Seychelles and India before moving to Australia. When she moved away from her traditional parents in her twenties, she quickly found that even a simple haircut could uncover layers of expectations and culture.

Iven Manning

Iven Manning studied Indonesian and Linguistics at the University of Western Australia. His interests include East Indonesian literature, music and ikat textiles. At present Iven is translating a collection of short stories by Dicky Senda, a writer from West Timor, running a monthly Indonesian Literature Club at the Centre for Stories, and teaching English as a second language.

This event is located in the suburb of North Fremantle (6159).
