Backstories is a one day multi-sited storytelling festival located in the suburbs of Perth. Reaching from Falcon to Carramar, Backstories provides new opportunities for storytellers to share stories in local backyards.
Bring a picnic and a blanket, hear from two storytellers, and meet new members of your community—all in your local area of Mount Lawley!
Featuring local storytellers Sandi Parsons and Amarjit Kaur, and facilitated by Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa.
Please note that although this is a FREE event RSVP is essential. The exact location of this event will be emailed to ticket holders on Monday 9 March.

Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa
Collapse BioSukhjit Kaur Khalsa is a playwright, poet, and screenwriter. She has competed in the Australian Poetry Slam Competition (2014) as a finalist, performed on Australia’s Got Talent (2016) as a semi-finalist, and presented at TedxUWA (2017) and TedxNewtown (2019). She has performed with notable artists such as Missy Higgins and L-FRESH the Lion, and her poetry and community arts projects have led her to tour globally and across her nation. In 2019, Sukhjit premiered her debut theatre show Fully Sikh with Barking Gecko Theatre Company and Black Swan Theatre Company. Sukhjit is currently developing two TV projects. What would Suki do? is a dramedy series based on her childhood and has received funding and support from Screenwest and ABC. Her rom-com One of the Good Ones is being developed through US accelerator program Imagine Impact. Sukhjit runs oral storytelling workshops for a range of projects, including Saga Sisterhood and Forbidden Love.
