Backstories – Gooseberry Hill

Saturday March 14, 2020
18:00 - 20:00

Backstories is a one day multi-sited storytelling festival located in the suburbs of Western Australia. Reaching from Falcon to Carramar, Backstories provides new opportunities for storytellers to share stories in local backyards.

Bring a picnic and a blanket, hear from two local storytellers, and meet new members of your community—all in your local area of Gooseberry Hill!

Featuring local storytellers Mikaela Castledine and Ron Bradfield, and facilitated by Vicki Laurie.

Please note that although this is a FREE event RSVP is essential. The exact location of this event will be emailed to ticket holders on Monday 9 March.

This project is kindly funded by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Healthway and Act-Belong-Commit.

Victoria Laurie

VICTORIA LAURIE is an award-winning journalist. Her career began in ABC radio and TV current affairs, followed by print journalism for The Bulletin, The Australian & The Weekend Australian Magazine and other publications.

Ron Bradfield

Ron Bradfield Jnr is a saltwater fella from Bardi Country, north of Broome but grew up in Geraldton, WA. He now calls Whadjuk Boodjah, his home. Ron has been accused of many things, but he swears he's just a storyteller - who gets to hear a fair few too!

Mikaela Castledine

Mikaela Castledine grew up in the unconventional house of an artist and a craftsman and so very naturally fell into art and making as a way of life. She acquired a science degree at university instead of studying art, going on to study interior design and later completing a masters in writing and literature. In 2018 she took out the Mandorla Art Prize, Australia’s most significant religious themed art prize as well as the people’s choice award with her work God is in the House.

This event is located in the suburb of Gooseberry Hill (6076).

Exact location of backyard will be emailed to ticket holders before the event.
