Close to Home – Discovering Female Indonesian Writers
February 4, 2020
Close to Home is an event presented as part of our new project, Lintas Laut, jointly hosted by the Centre for Stories, the Australia Indonesia Centre, and the The University of Western Australia Public Policy Institute.
Learn how Indonesia’s female writers explore history, religion, feminist and queer issues, religion and political violence, drawing inspiration from local and Western traditions. We’ll hear from the work of visiting writer, Erni Aladjai, whose exchange to Perth is supported by Lintas Laut. Iven Manning and Alberta Natasia Aadji will read the works of selected Indonesian women writers, before Professor Krishna Sen facilitates a discussion on Indonesian literature.
This will be a thoughtful, lively evening of literature, language and conversation, celebrating the connections between our two places and the female writers who challenge dominant narratives and show us new possibilities.
