Announcing: Centre for Stories in collaboration with ECU and Gaining Ground WA

Edith Cowan University and Gaining Ground WA, in collaboration with Centre for Stories, announce a partnership to amplify the young leaders in our community through the power of storytelling.
“Your Story, Your Lead” launches on International Women’s Day 2025, to harness the power of storytelling and sport to share our truths, connect communities, and inspire youth leadership.
As part of this partnership, Centre for Stories are delivering our oral story training program to women aged 18-35 years-old playing and leading in sport in the Perth Metropolitan area. This Program aims to build self-advocacy skills, make meaningful connections, and develop leadership confidence and capabilities through storytelling.
Beginning on 1 March 2025 at the ECU Engagement Hub in Perth City, the participants gathered under the supportive guidance of story trainer, Shenali Perera. Over the course of three workshops, participants will learn the power of discovering and sharing their stories, craft and present a 10-minute oral story, and grow their leadership skills, confidence, sense of belonging and connection to community.
This year-long partnership will leverage the power of sport and storytelling to progress gender equity in Western Australia. Aligned with International Women’s Day 2025’s theme of “March Forward”, participants’ stories will be shared throughout the year in WA-wide multimedia campaign to increase visibility of young women leading in sport and our communities. These stories will also be integrated as case studies on leadership within ECU courses.
Gaining Ground WA is a women-led not-for-profit that equips young women with leadership and wellbeing tools to stay in sport and lead.
Edith Cowan University is a public research university in Western Australia, proud of our namesake, the first woman to be elected to lead in the Australian Parliament who championed the power of education.
